Our Inveraray Targe (1036-GT), Stuart Targe (1037-GT), Cameron Targe (1069-GT) and Rob Roy Targe (1084-GT) all have patterns dating to the '45 Jacobite Rising. Most are of unknown origin but the Stuart Targe is reputed to have been made as a gift for Charles Edward Stuart - "Bonnie Prince Charlie". All of these pieces are beautifully made, with tooled leather over wood and a goatskin backing. All have spikes which screw into the central boss, with sheaths for the spikes attached to the back of the Targe, which is equipped with a leather covered arm strap and hand grip. The Inverary, Cameron and Rob Roy have brass decoration, while that of the Stuart is silver plated. Like the originals, these Targes are approximately 19" in diameter. The Scots Targe (039-PP), used by the highlanders as a defense against both arrows and hand weapons, was light and maneuverable, often concealing a left-hand held dirk. Construction is of tooled leather-covered wood with brass mounts, screw-in central spike and leather arms straps. Diameter 20".
